Is the prescription for my contact lenses different from the glasses prescription?

Yes. And it can be very different!

The prescription for contact lenses requires different information than that for glasses. The prescription for contact lenses will include the base curve, which is used to match the curvature of your eye's cornea. It will also include the diameter, which is used to adjust the width of the lenses for your eye and the graduation may also be different.

This difference is explained by the variation of the vertex angle, which is the distance that separates our eye from the refractive surface. Contact lenses sit immediately next to the eye while glass lens are usually about 10 mm away from our eye.
