What Does My Ophthalmologist Want to Know?

In a Ophthalmology consultation, it's very important for your Ophthalmologist to get as much information as possible from you, so that the exam can be as accurate as possible.

Always inform your ophthalmologist if you have:

• Blurry vision
• Double vision
• Diminished night vision
• Objects that float in your visual field (flies or dust)
• Difficulty following moving objects or estimating distances
• Difficulty distinguishing red from green
• Sudden flashes of light in your vision
• Light sensitivity
• Any problems with your vision that are bothering you
• Headaches or eye strain

You should also talk to your ophthalmologist about:

• Your overall health
• Any injuries, chronic diseases or allergies you may have
• Medications you are taking
• Surgeries you have undergone
• Your family history, especially if a family member has had an eye or vision disorder
• Any concerns you might have about your current vision correction option
• Your work and hobbies, in relation to your vision needs
• The best way to protect your eyes from UV rays and the damages from UV radiation

You should also visit your ophthalmologist immediately if you notice any changes in your vision and ask for guidance if your eyes are pained, red, inflamed or irritated.
