What is Myopia?

Myopia is the difficulty of seeing objects at a distance.

When we look at objects or things that are close to us we see them well and clearly, but the objects that are farther away seem blurry or hazy.

Myopia makes it difficult to drive, when playing sports, or when trying to recognize people and objects from afar. The effort to try and see well at a distance can cause severe headaches.

Myopia can occur when our eyes are longer, from front to back or the curvature of the cornea is too steep. As a result, light does not reach the surface of the Retina causing distant objects to appear blurry.

We can develop myopia at any age, but it usually appears at the onset of puberty. It is not common for it to occur after the age of 30, but elderly people who develop Cataracts may become myopic.

If you suspect having any visual alteration you should see an ophthalmologist to perform the necessary tests and receive the right diagnosis.
